Eye & Vision Exams

Eye Exam Image Preventative and routine eye exams are essential to maintaining good eye health. Often, eye and vision problems do not have obvious symptoms or signs but are easily diagnosed by a licensed optometrist. By diagnosing eye and vision conditions early on we are able to provide treatment options and, in many cases, restore vision or prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association recommends yearly or bi-yearly eye and vision exams, depending on your eye health.

Consultation

During an the consultation portion of your eye exam, you will discuss any symptoms you are experiencing, medications you are on, your work environment, and your overall health with the doctor. Family history or previous vision conditions will also be discussed.

Vision Evaluation

As part of your eye exam, you will have your vision acuity tested using a wall eye chart and a reading eye chart. The results of these test are portrayed as a fraction, with 20/20 being the standard for normal distance and reading vision. Depending on your vision test results, you may be prescribed corrective glasses, contacts, or eye exercises. s.

Eye Function Testing

In addition to a vision evaluation, an eye exam in our Pacific Palisades office includes testing eye functionality. Our optometrists perform several tests to evaluate depth perception, color vision, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light. Several other simple tests are completed to determine whether the eyes are focusing, moving, and working together properly. The test results enable us to diagnose any underlying conditions that may be impairing the eyes' ability to function normally.

Eye Health Evaluation

The final part of our comprehensive eye exam involves a visual examination completed by the doctor. Dr. Polan will evaluate your eyes by visually inspecting each eye and eyelid and by using tonometry to measure eye pressure. After completing this evaluation, Dr. Polan will review all the results of your eye exam and discuss any necessary treatment options with you.
